World Bank Office in Romania and eRomania Gateway Association have the pleasure to announce the awardees of the Knowledge Economy Essay Contest.
The awarding ceremony took place on July 23 2002, at the Grand Marriott Hotel in Bucharest. See images from the ceremony!
The winners are:
- Ist Prize (USD 1000): Cristina Daniela Ene, 20, Bucharest . The essay "Intellectual Capital and Education within the Knowledge Based Economy and Society" emphasizes the importance of knowledge, as an appreciating asset, within the modern society. The paper refers to aspects such as: the interest showed by different institutions (World Bank, OECD) towards building knowledge-based economies, the implications of globalization on the business world, the need to redefine the economic concepts and models, the consequences of information technologies development.
- IInd Prize (USD 800): Ionut Doldor, 21, Bacau . "The convergence of information economy by ITCs, Internet and e-commerce becomes as important in terms of transformation as the industrial revolution was" states the author of the "Knowledge Based Economy" essay. His paper analyzes the current situation in the field in Romania and suggests a series of measures to facilitate Romania's progress towards Information Society.
- IIIrd Prize (USD 500): Monica Cristina Manolachi, 26, Galati . "Knowledge Economy - a challenge for Romania" is the third winning essay. The paper refers to the "new economic order" based on globalization, knowledge and technology, and proposes a series of objectives, activities and indicators regarding the transition of Romania to the knowledge economy that is closely related to the national strategy on this issue.
The first 5 essays are available on this site and will be published in a volume to be distributed free of charge to academic and scientific environments as well as to other interested institutions.
