West Development Region (ADR 5) has a portfolio of 14 environmental projects that will receive EU funding up to 1 euro million each. According to ADR 5 Director Sorin Maxim, besides this waste collection projects, many other projects will be funded in the region with the structural funds for environment. ADR 5 on January 10th, 2007 launched the Grants Scheme for the Public Sector to Prepare Environment Protection Projects. The scheme is a component of the Phare 2005 Program for Economic and Social Cohesion. The Grants Scheme will provide financial assistance to public authorities or NGOs with duties in the field of environment protection or specialized in bio-diversity and nature protection for projects aimed at reducing waste, improving the quality of water sources and fresh waters, reducing air pollution and extending the activities related to bio-diversity and nature protection.
